I am so GRATEFUL for all this Grateful Dead.
For most of the years I was actually going to shows
I found it difficult to secure the TAPES I craved
So I got what I could, when I could
We had an overnight Dead show in N.Y.C (WBAI-FM)
and I would listen to Spyder, Uncle Dave
later on Lance & his crew,,
But now so many years later there is this incredible
GD-Internet Archive and just about every show in Soundboard quality can be streamed.
This is probably the coolest thing left from those times.
besides all us eyewitnesses to GD-History
1 in 10,000 come for the show!
As far as this show goes it has a nice mellow flow which might seem like a contradiction with a Minglewood opener but TLEO, Cassidy are just right. 78 is probably DJG best year- where Keith is distant or hit or mix some nights, she is so integrated into the band's sound.
Dire Wolf not always easy for the band to pull off live. It has such a long history --all the way back to 1970 I believe. This is a tight version. Jerry right on with lyrics and DJG and Weir backing vocals.
Weir has probably done El Paso more times than anyone even the great Marty Robbins. TENN JED- just listened to the FTP of this song from Northrop 71- Jerry sounding fired up for the lyrics this nite
USED TO LOVE HER-They were playing this Stones tune when I first started hitting shows in 84. (I liked when Healy bent it a little)
Here is a good write-up-

ah The LOSER they never introduced this as a tragedy song,
(well not that i am aware of) but the irony here. Jed is bouncy and funny at times but LOSER is take stock of what you got and like with serious urgency. Donna right there with Jerry on vocals
A great tune to proceed a set closing Lightning>Supplication.
One of my favorites which they dropped and never brought back?
Best versions were with Donna, Jerry seemed to get off on it too
They get into the MY LIGHTNING TOOOOOOOOOO..
Great jam into Supplication with PHIL on the lead until Jerry gets to sparking, spark my imagination :-D
Half Step- wow I just dig this tune, great version here
slightly raspy Garcia, good guitar work
Good to hear Keith in the mix
especially crossing the Rio
>Franklins-always versatile got played even when H>S>F
might be on the shelf.
Jerry almost melts it down!
(lIn later years they did Stranger >Franklin's)
Dancin'- so many changes to this song for the band over the years.
the versions from 76-78 most stretched out. (19 minutes here)
They don't quite make it back to the Dancin' reprise lyrics
but somehow pull out of that wild jam long enough to restate theme.
then off into drums.
Dancin was always more funk than disco kinda like Shakedown
( Shakedown comes in at under 8 minutes as encore)
Lots of straight ahead rock n roll Chuck Berry style between AROUND ( I like this extended version) and Johnny B
