Wow.... Impressed.
I once listened to the first set of this show, and it was one of the lamest I think I've ever heard. The band was so deeply out of synch, it was disturbing.
After someone posted about this show on Facebook today, I decided to give this Terrapin Station a chance. One thing about the Grateful Dead... if Jerry was throwing down a sub-standard performance, he never failed to come back and give 100% to something. On this night, Terrapin is not just nailed, but the post-song jam exemplifies the best qualities of 1993 improv. The band is remarkably locked in, with every member balancing their ear to their line. Lots of fun for the fans. This is the Grateful Dead at the top of their game in that era. Enjoy it!
High ratings for the Terrapin alone!

best i saw
out of about 60 shows. yeah, it started slow, but sometimes they teased us mercilessly (8-28-82) before getting us off like never before. this second set was a pure GD exhibition: bobby, vince, phil, JERRY, JERRY, JERRY, bobby, lennon. During the Terrapin jam, people were turniing to each other, jaws dropped, "is this really happening?" Of course it might have been the LSD, but as Bear said, what you see on acid is REAL. I swear to this day I heard every segment of the album version of the song visited, ever so subtly, during the jam. (and i've seen plenty of Terrapins on acid) It was like they played the whole song, but only if you were REALLY paying attention. by drums I was calling the encore to neighbors; they thought I was crazy. HA. X factor for rest of show.Sublime!

post-terrapin jam!
this show almost deserves 5 stars based on the post-terrapin jamming alone. alas, there's quite a few, typical for this era, trainwrecks. easy answers, overall a bit shaky, gets into a really sweet funk at the end. same for wave to the wind... sounds a bit off for the most part, but does reach some cool places in the instrumental section (as mentioned below).
the terrapin station, however, is truly great - a real must hear. a song, which i think benefits from the sound the band had during this era (all the midi effects, keyboard synths, huge percussion etc). welnick, surely not a fan favorite, does deserve a lot of credit for making this terrapin (both within the song itself and especially during the post-song improvistaion) special. after the closing coda, the band flows into this meandering groove. it's not a particularly thematic jam, but rather a fluid, spaced out rush of sound. great collective improv. the drums/percussion/bass section keep up a chunky, rhythmic background behind the soaring guitar and keys (garcia comes clos to really shredding in a few places, and utilizes to great effect the midi...), the whole thing eventually dissolving into a dark, frenetic kind of unsettling place towards the end. thw whole thing is long, too. about 12 minutes of excellent playing.
drums/space is, like many from this era, exceptional. and the dark star out of space is kind of swinging...

Terrapin
OK, so these stick out in my memory from being there: Loser, Wave, Wheel, and TERRAPIN!! Of course, nostalgia is powerful and probably biases my opinion, but the Terrapin is great. The nights before I remembered as having more energy but a good show nonetheless.
BTW, the crowd audibly sighed after Bob said "We'll be back in just a little bit" following Easy Answers. - guess we were hoping for a different/better closer--never quite caught on to that tune.
I'd give 3 1/2 stars if it let me.

Robert Hunters B-Day
Initially not the most exciting show, until you realize its Robert Hunters B-Day! Everyone was accutely aware of this at this show. Each member of the band plays a "new" Hunter tune (Long Way, Lazy River, Easy Answers, + Wave to the Wind). Then they launch into a "Phoenix from the Ashes" Terrapin, sick D/S>Dark Star>Wheel, as if to make up for all the straight tunes. LSD closes the night (Appropriately).
