This is the worst first live playing of any shakedown material I have heard... check out earlier Red Rocks run if you want to hear some of it really blaze out of the gates. Still its pretty great to have a chance to even have an opinion at all. My mom was at this show. She wasn't too impressed. Said the scene was a lot of drunk high school kids. Also strange venue.

good job to whoever taped this obviously nit from the primo locations down close but a nice job every instrument and vocal comes through clearly, end of summer '79 brents first run of shows ever, come on, this is huge. this show is cool and the recording is fine. what a transition from sleepy keith and shrieking donna to this guy named brent who sang great and played keys like A mOfO and knew every dead song off the bat he never made musical mistakes, ever, starting from this first tour, yes he had a problem with drunkenness that was bad later down and drugs, of course,, doing himself in, but an talent and an extraordinary fit w the band and the keys slot post well [[ ; . /

This isn't a bad show. Jerry is mostly in good voice, and the playing is generally good. This is a much better show than most in the mid-to-late '80's and mid '90's.
In this show, some of the songs, such as Loser and Estimated Prophet, are 5-star performances. Jerry does nice renditions of Peggy-O, Althea, and Deal, and El Paso is good. A real highlight is the jam going from Drums to Not Fade Away (at the beginning of the NFA track), and NFA itself. Black Peter here is excellent.
There are also low points: Bob is pretty bad on Lost Sailor and Saint. (Brent's Lite-Rock Easy to Love You must have made Pigpen turn over in his grave...) Jerry is just going through the motions on Ship of Fools.
The recording is not so great.
Historical note: this is the first Saint, but not the first Lost Sailor. (That was 8/4/79.)

I got this soley because it was my first show. The show was good enough not to scare me away, it hooked me for life (just like a tiger in a trance). BUT, the quality of this original tape SUCKS. Someone must have a better recording that could replace this. The high end fluctuates, as if the tape was exposed to some elements before archieving.

This was probably the weakest show i ever attended (If you want to hear a great Glenn Falls show check out 5/8/80, one of the best shows IMO). Sure its the first Lost Sailor/Saint... big deal, there are a thousand better versions (check out the version the next year at the same venue...awesome) The greatest story is weak and the band basically mailed in the entire show, very dissapointing. I gave one star because that's as low as the ratings go.

First joining of Lost Sailer/Saint. Different verses sung in Saint than studio version and, uh, well...Weir flubs some too but... Hey! it's early with this one and some super fifth-gear Saints kicked years later.
The first live Saint.
Loved Brents first year tour...especially his barroom piano solos in Big River, etc., etc.
Didn't listen to entire show to rate properly...you gotta pick a number though to post on this site.
