Some minor issues here, but overall this is a great performance. Jerry has some timing issues in the segue that Phil attempts to correct with some wonderful bass chords. Keith is great throughout. The slower the Stella, the better.

The rest of the show is peak.

Music wise-The show is in that 5 range.
Sound wise a 5 for Soundboard
yet a 3 for extended periods of distant Audience recording.

Of all the longstanding Cowboy tunes- it is Big River that has the hottest built in jam.
Good to see this song still smoking in 1976.
Also find it interesting that this is one of the few Cowboy tunes that is not in full on 'tragedy' mode.
Sitting on Top of the World had a similar story line but with Jerry doing the lead vocals.
Just loved the B.E. Woman with Donna Jean - just right.
LAZY LIGHTNING- Wow!!! This is like the 2nd time played and the song already is developing some real kick.
vocals are very cool.listen to DJG with those harmonies.
She is just under Bob and it makes the song sublime.
Jerry mixing it up with a few well placed oh's and ah's. Weir strong with the lead vocals.
they would stretch this out over the years
yet nice nice take here on the fundamentals of this tune.
(Every notice how Supplication and MUSIC have these little karate chop moments like HAYYYYYYYYYYAH!!)
Mission- That is a pretty deep song.( What makes one song more spiritual than another?)
Is it fair to say that you are in good shape with PITB opening the 2nd set. Donna way more reserved.
Personally I am fine however which way she wants to go. Her passion in 1973 takes my breath away.
i love that she stays out on the stage for every tune in 76. She is a most undervalued member of the GD Family.

Wow, the reprise to PITB almost sounded like they might venture into DANCIN' before that crazy drum snafu.

Isn't this the first slowed down FOTD, at least played live? Anyway, I love 1976, and this show is wonderful--even with the recording inconsistencies. Peace.

Very cool to hear an early Mission in the Rain, but too damn bad it is part of the AUD patch. Help/Slip/Franklin's is pretty good, but AUD as well. The show should really be listed as AUD, with SBD patches, and not the other way around.

I put this on one night when I was taking some things out to the car. As I was walking in and out I noticed one thing - every time I came back into the house Slipknot was still playing... wha?

If you've ever wondered why Slipknot was so short, check this one out. At 11 minutes its only 2 minutes shorter than the Franklin's that follows it.

Haven't listened to the rest of the show but hope to check it out soon.

While the AUD patches in this show are pretty "boomy," I really have to disagree with the negative comments about the SBD. There is excellent instrument separation and balance. Everyone is coming through clearly, and the overall sound is rich and full on a good set of headphones (I prefer Koss Porta Pro Stereophones for Dead tapes). Vocals are at a great level and harmonies are evenly blended.

Really, no issues with sound quality, or performance quality, in my humble opinion. This is only the second show they played after their long hiatus (aside from a few '75 stints), but, despite this, the boys are exceptionally in-step, in-key, and in-tune with one another. Donna is restrained. This is a laid back show, but by no means a drag. Jerry's solos are excellent by '76 standards.

Some highlights include an energetic Sugaree (check out Keith's piano throughout this show), a magnificently trippy Cosmic Charlie, a beautiful FOTD and Candyman, and a power-charged Let It Grow. The drummers are really dialed in for this show.

We are missing out on hearing an awesome Mission and Help>Slip>Franklin's due to a poor quality AUD patch, but the rest of this SBD certainly makes up for it. The latest source AUD posted to the Archive is very decent (it is two links up from this one on the 1976-06-04 page). It was transferred by Rob Berger and was Jerry Moore's (taping legend) 1st generation AUD reel. It sounds fantastic. It might be worth it to listen to this source for the SBD and Moores AUD for the patch songs.

A must-hear for the lover of '76-'78 era Dead.

"The what... the whaaa...?" My body starts to get clammy just thinking about it, palms all sweaty, as the song comes spiralling, somehow uncoiling from everywhere... inside and out. "Jerry's guitar line in Candyman? Well, it's like a goo that skacks and flecks all your brain's synaptic gaps, causing you to fall up and catch your hand," I said. Of course. I shuddered, cringed, and hugged my own tie-dye as I curled up into a ball on the floor board of my van. Yeah, ooooeey, goooeeey... lovin' it!

good set list, dona is restrained, and while there are some nice versions of the songs like the syrupy cosmic charlie, Jerry's solos seem inconsistent, sometimes lacking energy.
While it's nice to hear Mission in the Rain, it's one of the poorer quality songs recordings.

Overall, the sound is pretty spotty, really only a partial SBD...consequently, I probably wont bother listening to this one again, at least anytime soon.

Holy Crap! Ty Schumster for the recommend on this show, 6-10-76. What a gem, this was blazin'! Now wonder the write ups call it a classic. You're dead on with Mission, it is pure bliss. Thanks again guys for coming thru.

I'm with you Gratefully Deadicated & am thankful for all the shows available thru this site, it is indeed God-sent! It's sad to read all the whiners reviews when they too have so much to be grateful for. I remember the tape trading days all too well & would be glad to make all the trips to the post office once again even thou the copies received were of far lesser quality than most any of the COMPLETE shows available here. Big-ups to all ya'll that developed this site & up-loaded your well appreciated boots. Check out 6/10/76's Mission ~ pure bliss!

This one is a whopper folks one of the best of '76 but there are better copies of this floating around.

Some of this show, such as the Stella Blue, is a bit shaky. A nice 70's version of Cosmic Charlie, with sweet vocals.

This would be a 4 if the sound didn't vary so much. Nice job of patching, though. Kudos to the editor.

Not exactly being a completist frees me up to occasionally cherry-pick the songs I want. The sound quality here is not great, but I think a few of these tunes warrant special attention. Candyman is beautiful, with Garcia's lead just floating through like a gentle breeze. The Cosmic Charlie is probably my favorite one, again with that easy touch, and Donna is reasonably on key and actually sounds good. A rarity! FYI, this tune does NOT go into Let It Grow. 4 stars based on selective SBD tunes.

I love the Help>Slip>Franklin's, especially the Franklin's. But the quality of the recording is not much better than my 20 year old multi-generation tape. Does a better recording exist of the AUD portion of this show?

That said, this was my very first tape, and I love the show. But, boy, it would great to get a clearer recording of the smoking solos on Franklin's.
