The band is amped up. Great high energy 87 show. Tough of Grey -- you can hear the enthusiasm and feel the excitement and novelty of a top hit. This was never a bad thing for the Dead. Sure it made it harder to get great seats but it also introduced the band to many more fans and was fun to see the band charged up by their hit. Thank you GD Radio for making me feel 25 years younger by listening to this show again. How does time pass so quickly? This show brings one back to an era and is fun.

As much as I can't stand Jboy's pomp, I think he's mostly right on this show. Like most summer 87, this is a very good show. There are a number of songs that are strong vocally, particularly Bobby songs. But the playing is just short of great. For the Brent fans out there (anyone not in that list should rethink their musical opinions) the Blue Dress > Good Golly is nice, although it was done a bit better at other shows (particularly 9/9/87). Great sound quality though. If you want to hear this show, you won't find a better quality sound-wise.

As I have just finished listening to this show... I can't help but wonder if the previous reviewer 1) ever went to a show, 2) ever played a musical instrument, 3) took too many gel tabs 4).... list could go on.

Personally, I do appreciate your effort to really critique each show in detail. However, go back... listen to the powerful singing in NFA, and tell me again that this show was 'ok'. No musician puts that much energy into their voice without knowing they have just hammered the crowd. Hats off to this wonderful show.

Ok... it isn't Englishtown, but I still give it a high 4... round to 5.

1st Set: A well-developed "Jack" opens this final night at the 'garbagedump' 'ha ha, we're messin with you Bill.' Oh my goodness, Jerry's singing "Push" with a little more enthusiasm tonight to Not make it immediately skippable. "Walkin'" developes a pounding sensation that kicked me back to '77 for a moment. "High Time" is nice; but not a standout. "Desolation" is pretty typical as it was a strong '87 tune. "Iko" brings this short set to its rightful end.

2nd Set: The attempt is to storm out of the gate with "Hell." fire and brimstone. Not quite that hot, but pretty solid nonetheless. "Devil" is a nice novelty gesture, but both this medley and the previous opener sound rather detached from the listener. Brent does his best: rather obliviously silly. "Estimated" is good while being appreciably jammed out for '87. "Eyes" is a typical soft, warm yet tepid '87 short performance. "Drums" is unmemorable, "Space" is long and twisty if maintaining an earth-bound vibe. "Miracle" works as Jerry's lead guitar tonally matched up well with "Space's" trajectory. "Fantasy" suffices, but I've heard better. Both the "Wharf" and "NFA" are professionally played with some intricatness; however, they're suffering from a bland 'boring,' I can't wait til we get a month off after this gig, feel to it.

"Touch" and "Breakdown" follow the same pattern as above. 2/34's for a show that I grew less interested in, the deeper I got.
