Original post: I walked out when I heard the tell tale beats of Corrina..... From 1974 till this show, I had never been so bored that I preferred a walk to the car over listening to the boys.... Ironically, Jerry sounded and looked good playing with Traffic.... comes back 45 minutes later and looked like he got hit over the head with a shovel....
Update: playing really not that bad. But the 2nd set song selection. Ouch!

I had such a bad trip that night I hide under the escalator to get away from everyone. I'll never forget that night. I do remember Traffic and Jerry doing Dr. Mister Fantasy. That was awesome.

Nice drive from Buckeye to The Palace to Giants in '94. Listening to this recording confirmed what I'd remembered: this Birdsong was a nuclear supernova amidst an otherwise ++unexceptional show, that never seemed to lift off. Very hit or miss that summer; perhaps the band was still a bit dizzy from the classic performance on 7/31, and the 'Rain' show of 7/29. I sure was. They knocked it out of the park in the heartland but 8/3 felt like diminishing returns. 1 star for the Bird, and an Attics reminding me of earlier shows in this tour.

I remember this show going bad when Jerry totally botched the 2nd verse of the opening Half Step. The pre-drums segment was my setlist from hell and half of my group walked out before drums. The night was somewhat saved when I saw my only live Attics, that did not belong in this show, which highlighted a decent post drums. My expectations were not very high by 1994 but this show was a stinker even by those standards.

So far, this show isn't too awful. But when the band speeds up the tempo, the magic is lost especially on songs like Stella Blue, UJB, Miss 1/2 Step.
Sometimes I visit 1994 or 1995 to find a worst show. Last time I did that, I thought about what I was doing, and what happened to the band I love and got choked up. Seeing the devoted Deadheads trashing the band on some of these shows was what really got to me. I'm kind of glad I stopped seeing shows in 1990, just to spare myself the horror of the really bad shows.

1 star, but not the worse show ever. There are worse shows in 1995, shows that people are giving 4's and 5's. In some of the '95 shows, Bob sounds like he doesn't know where he is. In this show, Bob is hitting most of the notes. And here, Jerry is playing some guitar, as in Mississippi. In some of the '95 shows sound like he can barely find the strings. (1986 has some doozies as well.)
I think it's valuable to listen to the bad shows once in a while--or at least as much as you can stand. Makes you appreciate the really fine shows that are really pretty common in most other Dead eras.

I went to both nights at Giants Stadium that summer, and I remember this one was just not happening. How depressing. There was a girl dancing near me who, during the Promised Land first set closer, turned to me and said, "Isn't this great?" I sorta nodded vaguely because I didn't want to ruin her fun and say what I was really thinking which was "Oh, man this is awful." Amazing how up and down '94 was. When we left this show we thought, "How sad, the Dead are just done. But I had tickets for the next night's show, which I remember being much better. I think the Band (especially Jerry) knew that they'd really bombed on the 3rd and they had to make up for it. I think Bruce played accordion on the second night; can't remember. Anyway, the irony of the Aug. 3 show being so bad is that the fall '94 shows at MSG were uniformly quite good. But oh jeez, that night of Aug. 3, 1994 was incredibly depressing.

This was show 27 of a 28 show straight run for me (every show summer '94 except VT)
last venue of the tour......
and this show may have sucked for some......(especially if the new songs turned you off...)
but not for me...... the crecendos that night were in line for what was going on that summer, energy wise... it was powerful to say the least....
the QUALITY of this recording is a 'B' if not better.....
I definitely recommend trying the stream of this show before taking the negative comments too seriously.......
just start at the 2nd set (foolish heart) and you'll hear.........the WHOLE GIANTS STADIUM 80,000 strong going nuts.....and DURING the 1st song of set two......IT WAS CRAZY THAT NIGHT!!!!!
If you were grooving with jerry during this summer tour.... this is solid.......
(on a side note, i did have a lot of great shows Music and dancewise that year and heard others complaining about the same shows...)
i guess you just have to take it in the moment to enjoy this one....

I always enjoy Dead shows, even when they're not very good. This was the one and only show of my life that I left thinking, "that sucked." This show has almost nothing going for it. Horrid setlist, lousy venue.

This was one of the worst shows I ever saw. Birdsong is pretty insane and post drums is okay, but other than that it was a nightmare.

the show is not that great, but the Bird Song would be worth a listen on an "A" quality tape...

Very ambient audience tape, not very clear,
boomy bass. I would only recommend if nothing else existed.
