Show billed as "Mickey and the Hartbeats".
Bobby and Pigpen were absent.
A wild show! A fair amount of hiss, but otherwise a good SBD recording

Meh
Doesn't compare to other shows of this era, sound quality ain't great. I almost feel bad giving it a poor review, but I do throw around stars a lot, and visitors should know that this is no gem.

Great jamming. Reminds me of the Garcia/Wales Hooteroll album.
What I heard is that Bobby and Pig were booted from the band temporarily for not showing up at practice.

Interesting, but...
...it kind of sounds like I put live/dead on my stereo and then started trying to play along with the 500 pound thrift-store organ in my basement...

If you want to get REALLY technical this is NOT the longest Dark Star ,because , almost 10 minutes of it is The 11 Jam .12/6/73 is the longest Dark Star with no other Jams incorporated into the song(43:27).5/11/72 is about 47
min.s ,but, over 4
min.s is Drums. It sucks that Wales is so high in the mix ....I can handle the hiss ...that kinda comes with shows of this era.I would like to be able to hear everyone clearly .

Mickey and the Heartbeats
this is probally my favorite Mickey and the Heartbeats show, the hammond ogran player really gives the music a new flavor, the jamming is Bomb to say the least, the Jam>the Eleven Jam is the best part

interesting but not the Dead
This show is interesting but of course is not the Dead, and really should be billed as 'Mickey Hart and the Hartbeats' or 'Jerry Garceeah and Friends', two names under which this group performed. With Wales high in the mix, they sound more unlike the Dead than previous Hartbeats shows. Wales is a great, funky keyboardist who would have been at home in the JGBand. Unfortunately, the mix in the first half is bad (a good flutist who plays is barely audible), and in fact an AUD of this part would be better.
It improves later, and the highlight of the show is the second jam after Dark Star (really just the last phase of a 48-min DS exploratory jam), which is great, Jerry's nimble playing well counterpointed by Wales' keyboards. Worth streaming.

Pure jamming Dead.
No, this is not a great Mickey & the Heartbeats show, but Howard Wales guests on organ and he proves himself very capable with his jazzy runs. No, he doesn't step over the Dead; it's just that he's too high in the mix. You have the recording to blame for that, which by the way is very hissy and muddy. At least it's not an AUD.
But the hour-plus Dark Star is really unique. No 1st or 2nd verses and the jamming wanders far away from the Dark Star theme, but this is a must-listen for fans of jamming Dead.

it is long, but
i must say...i like the "unusual" organ bars Tom chose to pull at this show,{after listening to this more and more I DO NOT THINK IT IS TOM ON ORGAN---but someone sitting in STEPPING ALL OVER THE DEAD} anbody got any more info on this imposter ????????? but the quality is very poor.....i mean...you can hear the band, butthe hiss is takin over man.....it blows my mind how one night varies so much from another at the SAME VENUE in the same run...oh well....very different dark star.....quality buffs beware though.......but are they playin well......IT IS A 69 SHOW!!!!!!!!!
