I for one am sick of the nay sayers of these shows.. This was the end, blah, blah, blah. Fuck you! These guys gave everything they had for their entire lives to produce concerts for us the fans, and you sit there with no talent of your own criticizing the show as if anyone really cares if you enjoy it, WHO ARE YOU? I was at this show, last show i might add... LOVED IT! So go post your trolling bullshit somewhere else, FUCK OFF!

Sorry but this Visions crushes Utah where Jerry blows a whole line and i believe skips or repeats another. So much energy and emotion in each song on this night. Much better than the year would suggest. Destroys the way overrated Charlotte show with Bruce on Grand for all but Days where he and Vince switched seats.

I had similar listening experience to most commentators, so I'll just add this:
Ramblin Rose sounds like there's a horn section -- when I got up to check for a guest list online somewhere I then heard a few of those unique little guitar sounds that prove you are listening to a live guitar...absolutely beautiful.
Bon Dylan has said more than once that the only person who played and sings Dylan's songs the way Dylan intended is Jerry Garcia. You can surely agree tonight. A real treasure in a big bucket of fine things.

Well this is kinda sad if this is good for the era; the sound quality is nice thus 3 stars , but Jerry can barely play the signature riff at the beginning of Playing in the Band, and this is apparently better than before. So be warned, if your nostalgic you will love it, if not go back in the time machine... Its called the Internet Archive, thanks guys.

Every now and again, I go back to the Spring/Summer 95 shows in attempt to change my opinion of the entire era in general. All I can say is boy am I happy that I stumbled across this one. The energy is fantastic - even Jerry sounds great! They really reached deep down and brought it on this night. The first set is damn near flawless. One of the best West LA's I've ever heard. Vince's barrelhouse style piano compliments Bobby very well on El Paso. Take your pick - Ramble On Rose sounds 20 years older, Phil delivers his best Tom Thumb lyrics, and Jack-A-Roe (with its Texas-style swing drum beat) and Promised Land deliver. The boys definitely brought it on this night. Regarding the 2nd set, It's All Too Much is really quite good, and Vince delivers. We all know that Vince has gotten a bad rap over the years - he could never replace what Brent brought to the band. But I feel like, at this point, he was really starting to find his groove. Heaven forbid he introduce new songs to the band's repertoire!!! Iko Iko sounds great, maybe not Radio City great, but a very lively performance nonetheless. Next up is PITB, which flows beautifully into the rest of the 2nd set. There's no need to even discuss Visions, because we all know that Jerry kills it. I will close with this - because of Jerry's health at this point, we often forget how great the rest of the band sounded at this point, the drummers in particular. If ever there were to be an official release of a 95 show, I would recommend either this night or the Charlotte show with Bruce on baby grand for the entire show (for obvious reasons).

18 years & a few months ago, such a great memory.
I'm glad I got to see/hear Jerry & his band goin’ out on a high note.
They were having a good time and it seemed like they were doing this one for themselves,
we just happened to be there. A bunch of covers - Dylan, Beatles, Stones, Berry.
Hints in the first set. Iko got our attention, that something was still there, the reason for it all. A 45 second ovation! Space…Visions…. It had been years of just motion without the e. I remember turning to my friend and needing only one word “wow”. There was hope for the future.
Jerry's back and the band was adding the punctuation in all the right places!
I bought the tickets and took the rides and was still aboard. The cards were falling into place - the bonus round was starting. But alas it ‘was’ the last time. You just never know.

Listened through Iko so far. Other than a weak Hell in a Bucket, and [for me] the always painful El Paso, there's actually energy to this one and the band is playing like a band instead of 5 guys trying to carry/cover for the guy pretending to be Jerry. Seriously, Tom Thumbs, Ramble on Rose, even the over played Promised Land all sound good. And Iko was tight if not the rowdy tune of its late 70's through late 80's hey day [even the slower versions from '78 through '82 were more energenic than the ones I heard in '93 thru '95]. Couple minutes into Playin', and I wouldn't guessed '95. For what it's worth, saw a lot of shows between 7/31/74 and the RFK shows in '95. And this one you could dance to. And you could hear Jerry's guitar. All things being equal, a 3 star show over the "life of my DeadHead daze" and a 5 compared to the dreck I saw on the summer '95 tour.

This is a case where a recording, no matter how well executed, just does not do justice to the actual performance. This saturday night show, the next to last at the spectrum, had our hair standing up on end. In the true blues tradition, this evening's performance brought us up, way up, and brought us down, way down. I will never forget it. Jerry broke a string on bucket, first song. Trust me, this was a great one. It was a real jam, more than a performance.

Certainly a serious contender. Where is Phil? He seems to be missing from this mix. Sorry to those who liked this mess, I find it lacking in everything that made the Dead great. Jerry is not really present for much of the show. He mumbles his way thru West LA Fadeaway and might as well not have been playing on El Paso: there are long stretches of silence followed by slop. He perks up for Ramble On Rose though. Its All To Much is a good cover, and the Iko is ok but I'm just not feeling this show.
moe.DeadStringPhishplease sorry to dump on a shit performance but I was always a lot more interested in the music than the party. Listen to any Playing from the eighties or better yet from '72 and '73 and tell me that this performance is comparable.

I like all of the years, sure some years are stronger than others but each year the band brought something different to the table. If you compare the dead from 1992 to the band in 1995 they're a totally different band with a different sound.
Just the fact that the dead kept truckin on is a testament to their dedication to the fans.
God Bless Jerry Garcia, God Bless the grateful dead.

Even the unbroken chain breakout of this series couldn t salvage the ship.

My advice go back more than a few years

I think at this point, we pretty much had given up on hearing a great show, or even a good show. We hoped Jerry could at least pull it together for a few good songs. In my opinion this show has two highlights. It's All Too Much, which is well-suited for Vince and comes off very well considering Jerry is more or less absent. Then we get the incredible Visions of Johanna that Jerry sings so soulfully and still brings tears to my eyes. It's been 15 years and I still miss him more than some of the people in my family that have passed on.

I too was at the "visions" and "unbroken chain" shows that weekend and even though i loved the dead i left feeling like this really could be the last time.I never stopped seeing the band out of respect for them and would catch at least a few shows from every tour for the last 15 years but some of the later 95 shows and the 96 and 97 stuff was realy tough to listen to. For me it began to sound heart felt and original again on the otherones 98 summer tour and when phil and friends came to our area in 99 it was like a rebirth of dead music. Ten years later i truly feel i saw some of the best music i have ever seen on this tour. Even with 2 young kids,a wife and a very full time job i managed to squeeze four shows this week and a half and i am absolutly in awe of the music and the whole scene right now. Jerry had a tough last few years, as a recovering heroin addict myself i really dont know how he even managed to keep it up as long as he did...hearing visions that night still sends chills thorough me. So relating to my title...we all have opinions on the shows we have seen or even the ones we have not seen.I have heard people bashing this spring 09 tour also..which blows my mind but like Ken Kesey said" there will always be more dumb people than smart people..we aint many".

I remember going down to see the Dead this night basically because I had nothing else to do that night. My first Spectrum show was 4/08/1985, and if you go back to hear that show you can at least hear what the band could do, even though many would still say they were sloppy in that era. Never the less, I was 16, and high, and I loved every minute of it. So, if this was the only era you caught, then you are forgiven for liking this. The Bucket was never a favourite opener for me, and by West L.A, I was almost ready to head for my car. I could tell right away the chemistry of the night was going to stink. Jerry was waring some funky red-sweat pants and looked like he just got out of bed. He kept shaking his head because he was having problems with his gear and there were long delays between songs (even for the Dead). When Weir procured an acoustic for El Paso, I was becoming really bummed. The playing was so flat and the mood can only be described as dark from what I remember, which I guess is appropriate since this is the last time I would see Jerry in the flesh. Welnik never really became a solid member, and when they started to do Who songs, I knew they were toast. It's All Too Much actually gives me anxiety when I listen to it. These guys were not having fun at this point. Iko may have been a great party tune in the 80's but, I don't know, at this point everything they were doing just reeked of a lack of inspiration. The Visions is of genuine interest, but after the entire performance it was just too little too late (at least this is how I felt at the time). The great hall mark of a good Dead show is that it rocks and inspires from start to finish, and this was just a mess. I left during Rain and decided that I guess have just outgrown this stuff? There is some very good news on the Dead front. They are back! I saw them last light on the 2009 tour and they are inspired again and seem to have a direction musically. It is a testement to how great the band once was that even without Garcia they can still deliver a great concert, and they are hot right now. The set lists are amazing and are being played from the heart. So go out and here them, I hope it is not our last chance.

Say what you wish about 1995. This show negates every negative review. This is a magnificent Grateful Dead performance. Oh my God, Jerry keeps going on and on. Vince is magnificent. Weir and Lesh just sit there juxtaposed, and that's all they have to do. Bill and Mickey are transfixed.
Wipe your imagination clean. This is good ol' Grateful Dead perhaps as good as they ever first imagined.
This is one of the best I ever heard on the Archives.Org. It's all there.

There was a warm and fuzzy vibe in the old Spectrum on this night. It was as if by some miracle that most of the real Deadheads had gotten in and left the latter day "there for the party" pretenders outside to enjoy the asphalt jungle. The band settled into a nice groove during the second set and it was obvious that they were enjoying themselves, particularly on Iko Iko. Thinking of the joyous roar that filled the building after Iko Iko still gives me chills. After an excellent Space, Bob sang "could be the last time" with conviction and everyone in attendance knew it was true, making Jerry's forlorn vocals on Visions all the more bittersweet. Damn I miss nights like this.

I won't talk about the IATM> Iko, the Visions, or Rain, they are all great versions. What catches me about this show is the jamming they do during Space. Much better than the normal aimless noodling, this starts with Bob inventing a little guitar groove that the rest of the band vamps on. It is quite nice and worth listening to.
This show is my favorite of 95. Also, gotta love Phil's backup vocals on Iko where he sings Jac-o-mo-fee-nah-nay with such authority.

Subject: Visions of Johannah
I generally think that the band should have packed it in a few years prior to this as the play is really sloppy and uninspired for most of the post-Brent era. I do, however, think that this version of Visions is as good as the mid-80s version[s] - namely the Berkeley Community '86 (??maybe 4/23/86??). Although the guitar work is not as good (IMHO, Jerry's guitar playing peaked in the early to mid '80s til 7/7/86 [e.g., JGB 80-82; Dead 84-85], the playing is inspired and the vocals are not too bad. Its nice to see so many low gen sbds as well as high quality auds from this period - - so, I guess there are some good things about '95!!

tonight was my final grateful dead show at the spectrum and i thought the it was fantastic. i remember the sound was somewhat better this night than the night before. all too much was a good choice to pull out and the iko that follows is an explosion with jeyy bringing it down and then blasting the last iko at you. jerry has it all under control. the same goes for the rest of the show. i am listening to it now and it sounds great. highly recomended.

I was austruck.. Bless my sole on fire....
I had my pad and paper just waiting, my ears were so locked in... and that was when I heard Jerry sing "Show me someone whose not a parasite, and I'd go out and say a Prayer for him" Thank you, Grateful Dead....

Quick first set, but I got to hear my only Tom Thumb. The strength of this show lies in the breakout of 'All too Much,'one of my faves from Yellow Submarine, then into Jerry's hush-hush version of Aiko where he brings it down to a whisper, then explodes. Playin>Uncle contained some nice jamming, but the jam highlight, for me, was the one out of space; it was like Martian techno. Visions was nice; I love the song, but it doesn't pack the emotional punch that a song in that slot usually does. Fantastic show; one of the best of the year.

This is a great copy of a gem of a 95 show. Great MIDI work all over. The second set rocks and Visions is melty. One of the best of 1995.
As a side note, I always thought that 95 was a year where the other 5 were really together. We know about Garcia's issues, but if you listen closely the beat and rhythm sections sound very tight and on time. Even Vince begins to come into his own.
If only..........

This was my 2nd show in my hometown of Philly and the 1st I saw with my brother. It was this show that really put the hook into my 17 year old head. I remember feeling that we had actually levitated the entire spectrum during the best Iko ever! (it was picked by Dick to be played at the memorial service for Jerry in Golden Gate Park) To this day the visions still brings a tear to my eye after a few beers. The 95 shows may not have been technically good but the emotion of this last year is unparralelled. Thank you to whoever posted this crispy soundboard although I still preferthe aud. tape I have if just for sentimental reasons.

This show was amazing, full of energy, and just out of this world.. I sat 20 rows on Jerry Side the first set, I never sat for 1 minute. The second set I was invited by a Lawyer friend who had bought a private booth, we sat, drank, smoked to the best 2nd set we had heard in years.. From the opening of It's All Too Much into the Jam of Iko into Iko Iko was eletric.. Especially at the end of Iko w/ Bobby going lower, and lower, and lower in the Brodge of the song, till his voice boomed the Bridge again.. The lights went up, the crowd was deafaning to the Screams, Cheers, and full of ELECTRICITY!!!
If you listen very closely to the end of Iko Iko, you will know what I mean...

Jerry is of course not his former self, but he's not far off on this one. A lot of energy flying around, and the band is certainly "on" like only they could be. As previously mentioned, Visions of Johanna is really something else, and well worth the download alone. Probably a 3 star show in the grand scheme of things, but for a '95 show I give it a 4!

If you need one reason to get this show it's Visions of Johanna. This is the one from Fallout from the Philzone and it's beautiful. I had seats on Jerry's side this night and it floored me.
