Second straight Spectrum sizzlage
I was at all 3 Spectrum shows, and they were all good, but especially the first two sparkled. Shakedown provided some early funky jamming, always great to hear to start the show. Oddly, the first set ends on Cassidy, but it's all right because the set was smoking. Aiko, Saint of Circumstance, He's Gone is not exactly what I'm looking for to start the 2nd. Saint just rips (you can tell a good show is coming when Brent is on, which he is on Aiko -- that's when Jerry gets psyched). He's Gone segues into an intense bluesy jam which stands out, though I missed the swirling fast jams and transitions that used to happen out of He's Gone.
Drums and space was an essential part of an 80's/90's show, and the drums here gets going right away. Space is pretty much average. They start making Other One noises, but go into Truckin' first. That starts an excellent sequence for the back half of the second set. The sound is really good on this recording. Definitely worth a listen and a download.

Philly Phaithful Unite
I'm diggin' the sound on this one. I was at this show and was very happy to be seeing the band again after attending the 86' RFK shows. There was a point when I thought it might be over and when Jerry bounced back, all was right in my world again~! So their 1st shows back in Philly were huge. Philly is home and there is much love for the Grateful Dead in the city of brotherly love~!! This night is my favorite out of the three. They settled in the 1st night and than rocked the house this 2nd night. Solid 1st set and the 2nd set just cooks. The He's gone is off the hook and the Truckin'>Other One>Wharf Rat>Throwin' Stones>NFA is just yummy and one of my personal favorite encores Baby Blue capped a hot night in Philly~!!!so please>GIVE IT A WHIRL~Forever Grateful>Forever Dead~!!!!

Top 5 moments of my life.
I'd seen the band a few times before and really gotten off in a huge way, but this show changed my life. I was selling prints in the parking lot while a steady drizzle fell. After some time my brother who was selling shrooms got tired of the weather suggested we just get tickets and head in. I was right on board and we and a few others headed in to the Spectrum. My brother who's still the finest "Head" I know was rather generous with the boomers! I'm not sure if it was the surprise of going to the show, the abundance of Oregon blue stems or the excellent opener, but after Shakedown nothing was ever the same! So from a completely biased listener this is a fantastic show! I can tel you this, after the show one of the guys with us who I would never call a Dead Head said " I don't know what they were doing, but that's the way music is supposed to be played!" Amen. Just had to add that my oldest beautiful daughter is named Cassidy.

Man, Jerry is SMOKING tonite!
There are some monster performances tonight because Jerry's guitar is ABLAZE! Great Saint, Loser, He's Gone and a mind-numbing truckin' star in this great 87 show. 4 stars because the vocal quality of everybody tonight is a bit poor.

Wow Wie! This show is excellent. The whole show is top notch. Including a tremendous second set. The boys wered definately on this night.
For all looking to download these shows. It's not allowed by the Dead anymore or certain members anyway. Proceed over to
Etree.org and set up an account there and learn how. The shows take a long time to download but when shows like this are the reward, who cares.

Excellent + high powered show - as good as '87 gets
Explain why this is not a 5??
Brent gets kudus for Good time blues (a favorite) listen to Jer wail during this. Great Shakedown, All over now is usually a sign they are going to cook and in fact they do.... Phil gets in the act with Box of rain - Listen to Garcia crush Loser.... This He's Gone is up there with the Nassau 1981 'Bobby Sands'... There was a defect somewhere along the way and could nto hear Other One but Throwing Stones made up huge...NFA is f*cking awesome!!

love Brent
His piano solo on Iko my God was he good. He was my favorite of all keyboardist for the Dead Pig pen an all Brent has a place in my heart for life. He was so talented its hard to quantify in words. On a side note I just finished burning Frost 89 and not my first time around listening buy any stretch but, man he was so sweet on his stuff its unreal. so pretty aghh...
ps. This He's Gone smokes.

If not as instant euphorically pleasing as 3/29, there's greater musical depth to be found tonight.
That being said, I'd slightly recommend 3/29 over tonight. However, this is still a good show. Let's see why...
1st Set: Finally, my 1st 'Shakedown' of '87. Jerry's stroking my quench by hinting at it very obviously...Funky midsection but nothing out of the ordinary. "All Over Now" is speedy and rather plucky. "Stagger" is well told. "Never Trust" is concise yet filling out nicely. "Box," of course, gets the nod from the crowd. However, Who thinks Lesh's voice resembles anything melodic? Ouch, no-his voice is warm and emits a truthful genuineness. "Loser" keeps the jarring thematic contrasts alive. A thorough version with Jerry in good voice tonight. "Cassidy" is well-played but not climactic enough to merit closing out a set w/out "Ease," especially considering the set lasts only 45 minutes.
2nd Set: My body's starting to hop with the arrival of "Iko." Brent's solo, then Jerry adds life in this version as the drummers' bland routine is disaffecting. "Saint" yay?!, Though, it's a good version. Ahhh... here's my "He's Gone" from last night...Initally pretty, it moves to the land of the 'broods' where it seemingly hints at a "Nobody's," then veers away and settles for being a generous 15 minute version that segues into "Drums" which is mighty nice when the crowd claps along. "Truckin'" slides into birth from an non-distinctive "Space." Bobby's yelps elevate the band's energy from ordinary to active. There's no outro jam, instead Jerry instigates the charge to "OO." Lesh adds the formality 45 seconds later which allows Jerry to roam free. The 45 seconds of chaos that spews out before the first verse is undeniably a hi-lite of the show. Demon Weir lends his voice to an array of sound effects. (Ahhh..it's totally going to be the oo->wharf>throwing>nfa tonight considering the zero amount of new songs yet played.) "Wharf" cries out for human empathy. Unfortunately, the outro is waaay too rushed to elicit pity for poor August. "Throwing" is passionately sung but standard otherwise. "NFA" is more playful than norm with Bobby adding some 'be bop, bop, bop bop" of his own. Closes slightly prematurely for my tastes, tho...
"Babay Blue" closes this fine show with a classy grace.
More of a three and a half than 4 star trip.
