Great venue
This is a very fine audience tape of an excellent show. I remember the transition from LTGTR to Stranger and how, after the first 20 bars or so the drums just fell into the most delicious groove and the place lit up and the stage levitated and we were off and running. Cal Expo is a small venue, so my story isn't THAT remarkable, but anyway, we were standing a little behind the soundboard to its left. I looked across to the first few rows of the seats on the right side of the grandstands and there, buried in the crowd was a DH buddy I hadn't seen in a couple years waving at me. I mean, that's the kind of stuff I miss. Things like that only seemed to happen at a Dead show. Then, when we were leaving, a conservatively dressed couple walked past us and she says to him "That was the WEIRDEST thing I've ever seen!" and just looked at him incredulously. My wife and I just broke out laughing (and, of course, we were still high, so it was very funny at the time).

My First Show...Not My Last!
I was 17 and a junior in high shcool when I went to my first show. I was hooked instantly and I made it a point to go to as many shows as I could until Jerry passed. All I remember is that from that day until now my life was changed. I made it a point to always have tickets and to really learn about the music. I didn't really dig the parking lot at all. I wanted to see and hear the music. I wanted to watch these guys play. I wanted to watch the soundboard guys. I wanted to know everything I could. I loved it and I still do. This band has gotten me through some hard times in life, and has rocked me through the good times. As far as Expo went I loved going there, such a great intimate venue. All I can do is say thank you from my heart to the band for all they went through to play music for us. I know they loved it, but it wasn't always rosey. Nevertheless night after night they showed up and so did we. Thanks!

This show changed my life
This was my first show ever, I caught the boys 45 more times in the next 5 year, mostly west coast summer ( I was a college kid so I had the freedom to roam and sling shirts during the summer months) Does anyone remember Calvin and Hobbs Groovy shirts that was me and an old buddy from USU. Anywho I could not have been more blessed to have had the opportunity and the experiences I did. I still miss the the band and the scene but at least we have the music.
God Bless You All

great run
hey Lemon - I remember that guy, and I remember he touched the head of Jerry's guitar right at the exact moment of the climax to the solo of watchtower.
These were great shows at a great venue. Where or where is 6/10/90?

Thanks for posting this It was my first show
Did anyone see that guy that jumped up out of the crowd and tried to grab Jerry?
Security tackled him before he could do anything, and Jerry just kept playing as if it happened all the time, but I've always wondered what that was all about.
Peace

I would check out the Dear Mr. Fantasy first before you consider the gentleman's advice below to pass on the latter half of the 2nd set.......

First set
A great recording. One of the first in my collection way back when. This is one of the shows that deepened my attachment to this incredible music. I recall David Gans playing the Stranger from this show on the Grateful Dead hour back in the KFOG days the week after the show happened.
Cassidy is a scorcher as well. Pre-drums second set itt also great; maybe the finest all-around Victim or the Crime... for one who doesn't care for the song, it's enjoyable, with a twisted segue into a scorching Touch of Grey. The bells during Looks Like Rain are also very nice, providing a contrast to the wonderful spring '90 performances (see 3/28/90,
i.e., w/o a net), and the incendiary performance of 6/23/90 to come. Terrapin loses a little steam, and the band is clearly tired for the post-drums session.
Get discs one and 2 here, and add the encore. One hell of an amazing sounding recording.

I was at all three of these June 1990 Cal Expo shows, and the second set of Saturday night was the best. I remember realizing that the Dead were playing Dear Mr. Fantasy, then Hey Jude (? hey isn't this a Dead show?), and Watchtower. We were almost having too much fun that night!

hands down some of the best sounding audiences made. If you've been to expo you know why, that place is tiny.
where are the other shows with this setup!
Love the BK 4011.
Great string of shows from 90, one of the hottest runs of 1990. Get the whole series, the soundquality and performance level at the expo was fantastic.
