deep Shakedown groove
5 bc this is my favorite Shakedown. Maybe Jerry did have a little too much too fast; Bobby sounds like he's almost laughing as he reminds him of the lyrics at the start. The band (and the audience hoots and howls) sound loose, funky, wild. The round on the chorus is great, and then Jerry and the drummers sink into a groove that just gets deeper and deeper, with Phil thumping them along. Brent and Bobby splash fills and flourishes all over, Brent sometimes mirroring Jerry, sometimes accenting his jam. Without being too specific the span from 9'30" to 11'30" is gold; especially the deep deep groove the drummers knock Jerry at about 10'22". Love that $#i7. Jerry nails the chromatic runs at around 11'00" so hard it's like he can see the future. The crescendo is high and squeaky and somehow perfect. Phil sounds like a funk heartbeat. After the peak, Jerry lays off a bit and Bobby and Brent play off each other in a total flex. It's great music, great jamming, great funky fun. My favorite Shakedown.

Shakedown
Who knows what happened at the set break, but if you listen to the Shakedown all the way through, and you DON'T think it is an all-timer, then we are just going have to agree to disagree. Sampson is kinda fun too. There's beauty in imperfection.

The Shakedown vocal flubs are pretty humorous but - if you wait for it Jerry grabs on to something extra fierce during the jan.

Last Chance
Touch Of Grey and Morning Dew were first class. Nice Dire Wolf. Shakedown leads were psychedelic! The house lights were on for Baby Blue, a touching moment. Jerry was so high for this one, I have to mention given the flubs in Terrapin and Shakedown. The guitar playing was compensating mightily though. Was not in a position to say that ever again after this show. Saratoga was fun though.

OH NO!!! FLUBBED LYRICS!!! RUN AWAY , , , ,
The lyrics at the start of Shakedown are well and truly flubbed. As one earlier reviewer commented very aptly "what kind of stocking stuffer was that Jerry?" Yep. Maybe he had too much too fast . . . . But about the time you quit laughing they really, really get a truly memorable groove going-- majority of the song is just absolutely killer and Jerry sure ain't lost . . . . .

Love the Shakedown
Yes, Jerry flubs the lyrics. It doesn't stop this from being a great Shakedown. I'm not sure where the first reviewer (only 6 years ago) is coming from as far as Jerry getting very lost during his solo. It's actually a brilliant solo. I say this as a listener, and as a guitar player. And yes, it is the one from Bay Area Boogie - one of my first "bootleg" CDs many years ago. And the Samson rocks as well, despite an opening lyric flub.

4 stars for sound. but as far as vibe; seems like downers with no band member clearly "on"
(if i had to say i'd say drummers)
everyone else has a lazy-feel

What kinda stocking stuffer was that, Jerry?
Jerry is obviously feeling REAL good after that set break, huh? Maybe a lil' void in the lyric deparment gettin things going, but the jammin' is some deep stuff and loose as a goose for the most part. No complaints from this fan. First set has some gems--Man Smart in the first set, On the Road Again, and a lil' latter-day Lazy Lightning. Great show-great era for the band-AND especially Jerry Band around this time, too. I like Christmas in June. Great upload-Thanks.

Bad Rap
This show has its flaws, no doubt. But there are some highlights. The 1st set is solid, with Jack Straw, Lazy Lightning -> Deal, all above average with clear sound.
I remember hearing this show on an FM broadcast a long ago & the thing I remember was how together the band sounded. Ironically, they come apart in the 2nd set. But the 1st set is worth owning.

mumble jumble
You have to hear the shakedown - it's so badly bungled it's hilarious (and then Bobby spaces the first line of Samson) - the first set is pretty decent, and the 2nd ends in better fashion. I'm sure it's more special if you were there, but damn, this is certainly not a five star show!! 12/27 will be up at some point I'm sure, it's better.

I have to agree with Sponge. I saw that whole run and this night was the best of them. I agree that the second set was so-so, but the first set was amazing -- and one of my favorites of nearly 200 shows.

In fact I saw all the shows this stop ÃÂ this was the best. I guess you had to be there, everybody was wild, the roof naerly came off the old place. The boys must have liked it too: satisfaction plus the best damn Baby Blue I've seen.

Some Nights You Can't Get No Traction
A dissapointingly sleepy show throughout. The boys don't even wake up for the second set, with Jerry fumbling pretty much every verse (and getting very lost in his solos) in Shakedown and delivering a very weak Terrapin. Sound on the other hand is very good, with the exception that Baby Blue is patched from another B+ quality SBD. Despite this, the band just do not sound "On" this night, especially in comparison to the killer 12/30&31 shows. In his Satisfaction rap, Bobby quips "Some nights you just can't get no traction". Yep, sums this one up alright.
