Another example of how Scarlet Fire was elevated starting in 1980. The 1977 are dull and slow and uninventive in comparison to versions such as these even as early as 3 years later and kept getting cooler and better vibes through the 80's and 90's. This really beats the 1977 sound imo

This kind of stuff is just more exciting and fun and interesting (especially when showing Scarlet/Fire to non-Deadheads) than the 1977 versions tight and technical as they are. The 77 sound is almost TOO tight for some listeners the 80's and 90's Scarlets are easier to groove to. 1977 is just run of the kill every night that spring sounds similar and not too inventive.

I'm just gonna say it: the transition from scarlet to fire is straight up dull compared to later versions. the SBD is great quality but this show is only considered to be so great because for a while it was all you guys had. It's tight, it's great, it's still the dead, it's not that exciting sounding it really isn't, and this song and how it's the overwhelming favorite on this site is a perfect example of this bias towards official releases, the longer they go back the more you guys can't get your favorite word "definitive" out of your head when you hear it. This transition from scarlet to fire is almost nothing honestly.

The video of this Scarlet single handedly turned a friend into an official Dead fan. The drummers ASTOUNDED her. This beat 4-20-84 and many other early 80's versions that have higher votes, give a listen/watch.
