Not particularly heady, but a notably not-too-bad later version with nice Vince vox

Weird, jazzy 90s version. Remarkably good!

Often a throwaway, this super bouncy version from a top 10 show sparkles.

Very solid version of what is my favorite Brent song.

Another classic from what has rapidly become one of my favorite 90s shows period. I was sleeping on later Dead.

I'm not super familiar with the later 90s, but that intro jam, at times discordant, rather deep, and with Jerry covering a whole range of tones--man, they were NOT just going quietly into that good night every night. This is taking the song to some new places, and moreover, it's just *good*. Love that the Rhythm Devils kinda hang back and let things percolate. As John Hilgart notes, it starts to get into a very "Dark Star"-ish place by the fourth or fifth minute into "Scarlet", still nominally the intro.

Really great version. Wow. These March 94 shows are one last gasp of new and great stuff. Bob's singing, unlike many other things in the band, seems like it just got better over time. Jerry's really on point. Vince's keys are perfect and really well-mixed. Are they both on acoustic or just Bob? Jerry's guitar in these shows sounds *almost* acoustic, and it seems to fit his playing style at this point in his career much better.

This is the latest show, chronologically, that I have heard that seems to have been pretty much on fire. Big fan of how Vince harmonizes this one, which hits a weird almost Phil Collins vibe. Very 90s but it works very well. As I mentioned in the comment on this show's "Bertha", a very notable factor is Jerry being present and keyed in for the whole show. A major gripe I have with some of those "Brent revival" shows is that he frequently seems to be phoning it in on guitar during the song itself, then turning on the jets during the solo (I'm thinking of an example like the Without a Net "Bird Song" or "Eyes", both of which sound like he's just...not fretting the guitar hard enough. It's hard to describe.). Anyways, here, he's doing a Bakersfield thing style thing throughout the whole song, very tasteful. Part of it might just be his guitar or gear--seems like he had too much sustain and echo in some of those early mega-stadium shows. Here, it almost sounds like he's playing an acoustic (maybe he was?) and it works super well. For me, a top 10 version.
