Space
Nov. 2, 1984

drums has some great marimba work and some kool solitary wanderer threads. Space is a shiny neon glide, marvellous tonal jamming with sometimes tinny effects but they have so much in the tank this hot night and the active listening is through the roof, every musical motion sets off a rube goldberg either conforming or utterly complementary. Like many spaces the gestures start slowing down as it goes on, and like many spaces it gets free jazz bonkazoid but this time as it exits.

Lost Sailor -> Saint of Circumstance

gleeful mall of america shopping spree Franklins chops-fest with an exquisite 72-ish melt to a deep refined Sailor saint. the 4.0 incarnation went insanely far without the frequent drastic tone shifts that every later version would use, they basically dont touch the effects, sounds like weir is on the ibanez (think with woodneck), raw stuff!!! Mazes of time lapse ripples of insect-eyed REM blinking of murky browned blues and magentas into nights embrace to be pulleyes out on the bucket of Garcia's giddily lyrical lead work all over this mammoth segment of music

unstable, half-there, and utterly ascendant. So much groove and drama. Excellent stuff.
