Muscular and punchy. Jer sings it right on: kicked my eye and kicked my dog, midnight train. Energy reigns.

Goin' Down The Road Feelin' Bad
Oct. 23, 1971
Easttown Theatre
Contains everything and could stand alone as an epic GDTRFB, even as part of its trad NFA sammy. Great speed work from everyone, builds and builds.

"Kicked my eye and he blacked my dog". Like others this night, the vibe is aggressive and rowdy, knifey jagged soloing, this one's a killer.

Me and My Uncle
Oct. 23, 1971
Easttown Theatre
Introduced as"kind of a death and destruction song", which tells you all you need to know.

Cumberland Blues

Outrageous, hot, and pumped up. Should have been of this list a long time ago.

Lazy Lightnin' -> Supplication
Sept. 27, 1976
Community War Memorial Auditorium
You know how when old head's talk about '76 and mention the great LL>Sup jams? Well here it is. This kicks off and just doesn't stop. The whole show features one of the greatest 2nd sets of all time, and this one shows you earlier on in the show just how ready they were to go further and farther faster.
They Love Each Other
Sept. 27, 1976
Community War Memorial Auditorium
One of the best from '76, with just a touch of insouciant strut.
Not Fade Away
Sept. 25, 1976
Capital Centre
NFA can be so sweet when they dial it down. Here the voices are full of feeling, and it really feels like the big love.
Scarlet Begonias
Sept. 25, 1976
Capital Centre
Starts really muscular for a SB, just pumped full of vitamins and bursting at the seams with an almost ska or Caribbean carnival vibe to it. Once the melody is done they turn the heat down but she's still simmering away. The explorations begin and it's a great great ride. At one point Phil and Jerry are in spontaneous counterpoint. I love the stand-alones and this one is top shelf.
Cosmic Charlie
Sept. 25, 1976
Capital Centre
We used to hold signs and wear teeshirts calling for Cosmic Charlie. There was even some acid inspired shenanigans calling it a "campaign" or something. Never came back, though did it. It's just one of the mysteries.
