Goin' Down The Road Feelin' Bad
Oct. 19, 1972
Fox Theatre

One of the rare versions that stands apart with or without its NFA bread.

Dire Wolf
Oct. 19, 1972
Fox Theatre

For a song that was effectively out of rotation at this point, they pulled it off with sing-round-the-campfire sweetness. Jerry growls it out.

China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider
Oct. 19, 1972
Fox Theatre

Sweet version with an innovative transition. The whole band was on, but Keith and Phil are high in the mix and brilliant..

Bertha
Oct. 19, 1972
Fox Theatre

Recording is good, with Keith and Phil high in the mix. Everyone is switched way on, and the jamming shows perfect unity.

Sugaree
Oct. 19, 1972
Fox Theatre

Band recovers from a flubbed BTW and charges forward with this powerful rocker. Jerry and Keith's interplay as it rises is spectacular.

Uncle John's Band
Nov. 16, 1970
Fillmore East

Seems like the date of the show is in question, with strong arguments for the 16th ("unannounced show") or the 23rd ("Hells Angels Benefit"), with "memories" backing up either story. Either way, it's a magic little show with great accompaniments by guest stars. This UJB is gorgeous.
King Bee
Nov. 23, 1970
Anderson Theatre

Some debate as to this date. Just listened to it all as 16 November 1970. In any case, the whole thing is just amazing. I love how clear Bobby is in the mix throughout, which is so rare for the era.
Feelin' Groovy Jam
May 25, 1972
Strand Lyceum

Right on Robjacobi waikikirob. As I said on the Dark Star comments from this show, this is the music I want playing (on a loop) over my tombstone. Also, nice form on your picture there. Ride one for all those surfers out there who no longer live next to the ocean....
Samson and Delilah
June 9, 1977
Winterland Arena

Charges right out of the gate. Even if this isn't your favorite song, they leave no doubt about their blazing energy. Jerry/Keith communication across the soloing is just brilliant.
Mississippi Halfstep Uptown Toodeloo
June 9, 1977
Winterland Arena

Ripping opener. It's been so long since I dropped in on this show, but it's like a cool glass of water on a hot day: Just exactly perfect. Jerry's outro solo announced to these lucky fans just what kind of night they were in for.
