I agree -- listen to Jerry sing "I'll get up and fly away". The outro solo is textbook Jerry and the song ends with what must be the most elegant coda of any Rat out there. This is Top 5 for sure. Folks: check out these summer of 71 shows. There's at least 7 or 8 noteworthy ones.

Some excitable young female shrieks around the 3:20 mark, right after "drunk on burgundy wine". Then they really, really slow things down. Billy in love with the cymbals on this; very active Phil driving things along. Jerry's vocals are pretty strong on this. Some flashes of the intensity his solos will have later on, An interesting version, typical of mid-71, in the evolution of this fan favorite. I became aware of this one while driving south on 99 in Oregon several springs ago; just before Memorial Day, so they were featuring this show on satellite Dead station. By the way, this might be one of the first performances Jerry played Alligator on.

This is really a comment on the show the next night. I was there, and my buddy's girlfriend was carrying our pot in her handbag. This got confiscated but they did not arrest her. The atmosphere was tense throughout the show, and anyone who they caught smoking was dragged off to a portable booking station the cops had somewhere. Phil warned us when they took the stage that "some of our friends didn't make it home last night". The L.A. police chief was Ed Davis back then, and he was one scary dude.
