I thought I might be in the minority on the one-drummer issue. Reading these comments, I feel like there must be a lot of us. I attended about two dozen Dead shows between 1972 and 1981 and always thought the shows with just Bill were stronger. I feel that Bill is a drummer and Mickey is a percussionist. True, I prefer 74 and earlier for a lot of reasons, but things just meshed better with just Bill, who sometimes could actually direct the band in the next direction in a jam. Listen to him in 71 in that quintet setting. Special.
