China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider

Bouncy as it is lysergic. Unique phrasing from Jerry. Everybody’s vocals are on. The Rider is some pure country fried jamming if I’ve ever heard it.

This is The Dead at peak performance level. Cataclysmic version. Everyone is ON. Explorative and not a beat missed. Easily top 5 of 69.

Nice early electric version. Always preferred this key for Dire Wolf compared to when they changed it in the later years. Just right. Nice version.

Next Time You See Me

Takes you right to Chicago. Jerry’s playing emulates the blues greats. Hard rocking version that reminds me of a Junior Wells cut. Highly recommend.

Haunting organ playing. Crystalline and psychedelic early version that feels very spacey. Great vocal delivery.

Just lovely. Haunting and acidic is how I like my Dark Stars and this certainly fits the description. Jerry is really in it and you can just tell that the band is riding that infectious energy. Highly recommend this entire show.

Just wow. Such power and vigor. Jerry is at the helm of this one and just launches the band into cosmic uncharted territory. Love Bobby's vocal inflection in the last verse. Hang on tight y'all. P.S THE CRYPTICAL JAM AT THE END

Man what a wild wild ride. Crazy primal energy in this one that feels like it can go on forever. An attack on the psyche if you will in the best way possible. In my personal opinion the first part of the jam loses me at some points but once we get past the first verse it just gets so weird in the best way possible. Psychic attacks and viscous magic was at work. Stunning version. Check out 5/3 5/10 for some absolutely wild rides as well!
Wharf Rat

Orpheum Theater

Stunningly beautiful and exquisite. Patience is key here as the band really lets the music breathe and flow as it’s own entity. It feels good, sounds good, everything you could want in a Wharf Rat. Very delicate and tender. Jerry completely embodies the lyrics in this and the band really lets the music plays. Cannot recommend this enough. Stunning Wharf Rat. Gonna check out the Stella/TOO combo from this show next!

A very fun China Rider. I always seem to come back to this specific version, maybe it just hits my ears just right, no clue!! But I love the unique feel of this version and it overall feels nice and loose but still incredibly tight at the same time. Jerry’s phrasing has me coming back to this a lot as well. A small quote from “The Entertainer” perhaps during the last solo? Check it out for yourself!
