Dupree's Diamond Blues
March 31, 1984
Marin County Civic Center

Damn right, what is a Dupree doing here?? Great little surprise especially considering the 1984 date. Certainly a "not miss" version and show.

China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider
Aug. 4, 1971
Terminal Island Correctional Facility

At this point in 71' China>Rider was still in its primitive stages, this version is only about ten minutes. But, boy could they fit a lot into these short time frames. Garcia doesn't get provided enough time to really feel groovy at the end of the China Cat, its only four minutes. However, it doesn't matter, the playing is strong throughout, and indeed as mentioned Phil is locked in from start to finish.
I Know You Rider
March 31, 1973
War Memorial

Inventive set-list dynamic, the suite aforementioned is worth checking out, I believe it is listed in the "Grateful Dead Project's" top 31 jam segments. The jam into IKYR is especially unique, a sort of China Cat transition is born straight from a Spanish flourish, which was born out of a strong Other One. The transition into IKYR is especially something of note. The Rider has many underpinning vibes that are only really present because of the lack of China Cat. A Solo electric Rider is an especially special detour. Country folk psychedelic heaven.....
