A jammed out version of Casey Jones like you have never heard before. Bobby's bright Mesa Boogie tone and Cowboy Fancy guitar make his solos really stand out. Jerry brings the refurbished and improved Wolf out of the closet and returns to a more wooden tone (as compared to his aluminum necked Travis Bean guitars).

Dick's Picks Vol. 20 Disc 2 - Despite the countless versions from '73-'74 or '77 that are touted above the rest, this one stands out to me. The slower tempo is groovy, and Jerry's solo is never more heartfelt. Every note is delicately chosen and placed. Jerry is playing his first Travis Bean with humbuckers and Mesa amp. Just a great performance the whole way through. The Dancin' that follows it is also one of the best played. The beautiful solo that comes after the "across the Rio Grandio" outro caused me to have a spiritual experience while driving in the countryside on a sunny spring day. Not to mention Keith's sparkling keys throughout.

Estimated>Other One>Eyes - A pretty good sandwich with lots of inventive playing in the jams. Jerry really keeps your attention the whole way though Eyes. Keith's Yamaha CP-70 electric piano sounds great here. Uptempo but by no means rushed like some of the '78 Eyes sound.

This version definitely belongs at the top. '78 was THE year for Dire Wolf, and this version is just as strong, if not stronger than11/5/77 and 4/16/78. Jerry really gets into his vocals here (so much so that he flubs them at one point), and his crisp '78 Wolf tone really shines up the solo.
