Space
April 3, 1982
The Scope

This brief Space is more of an extended Jerry-led intro to NFA, and it's way cool. This show is out of sight.

Bird Song
June 13, 1994
Memorial Stadium

Adventurous, somewhat dissonant jam from a fairly strong first set. Fans of Welnick-era improv should check this out.

Its All Over Now
Nov. 10, 1985
Meadowlands Arena

Rowdy but still sharply played. Check out this superb first set.

Row Jimmy

Tower Theater

Intense and electrifying, highlighted perhaps by Jerry’s vocal performance. Another amazing June ’76 Row Jimmy.

I Need A Miracle
Dec. 17, 1978
Fox Theatre

Hot early version with a well-developed Jerry-led outro jam. Check out the amazing Joann Walker recording.

Stella Blue

Auditorium Theatre

Hate to be the contrary voice here, but I think most of this version is actually a mess. There a few nice moments in the outro, yes, but the whole thing nearly falls apart several times leading up to that. Too slow, too loose, and the band's just not on the same page.

Hampton Coliseum

Sprinkled with magic, emphatic but not leaden. Jerry's guitar and voice are both very fine in this bright, powerful version.
China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider
Feb. 15, 1973
Dane County Coliseum

I'm the first to acknowledge others' contributions, but this one is all about Jerry, who gives a textbook demonstration of his nimblest and most soulful playing. Way underrated.
Row Jimmy
Dec. 2, 1973
Music Hall

Amazing dynamics on this version. Delicate without ever losing its pulse.
