Johnny B. Goode

Love versions of this track from 72 and 73, and this one's no exception. Keith's piano is great, Jerry's playing with gusto, everyone's locked in.

Keith's gentle keys add SO much to this version - a very emotive rendition, just as it should be

A big showcase for Jerry's vocals - he's nice and aggressive here. Keith and Billy sound great as well backing him.

Hot, high-energy, uptempo version with some excellent drumming by Billy.

Plenty of emotion in this one. Jerry's vocal performance, particularly at the end, is awesome.

I like how Bobby catches himself here - "New Yor...uh...New England fillies." Yeah, us Heads in Maine aren't sure if Connecticut is in New York or New England either. ;D
Drums -> Space

Madison Square Garden

Miles Davis' "In a Silent Way" is quoted during the transition between Drums and Space. It's a really neat interpolation!

Funny - this version's first verse and chorus are in the key of C rather than their usual key of A. The band switches back to A after that. My guess as to why they did this? Well, Promised Land is in C, and it kind of sounds like Jerry wanted to play Promised Land before realizing that they'd already played said track earlier in the show. So he quickly switches to JBG, then the band corrects after getting through the first bit of the song. Or...am I just imagining things?

??? What an oddly passive-aggressive response. People like what they like, man - all I'm saying. Don't overthink it.

Bummer about the slight messiness of the soundboard (even on the official box release) but the performance is superb. This one's a big standout coming right on the heels of a marathon Playin'.
