China Doll
Dec. 29, 1977
Winterland Arena

Absolutely agree. This should be much higher. Haven't heard a better China doll solo better then this. Heartbreaking and stunnung. The band is right with Jerry. The lack of repeat this show gets is srunning. Almost everything here is better then Cornell
Uncle John's Band

Knickerbocker Arena

Absolutely love the ujb into terrapin for sure. The ujb is tight. I'm a huge Brent fan and thought his vocals lent great to this song. Much better IMO then 10/16/1989. I thought they nailed this one. Not a powerful jam but this one was about vocals and I've always felt this song was more about the lyrics and vocal delivery. That's why those 70's accustic version worked so well.
Uncle John's Band

Augusta Civic Center

Don't know what got into the boys in that second set but wow!!! Yes, mellow but sweet. Love Brents fills on keys as always. Jerry sounds great and Bobby is playing right with him. The moring dew may just be one if the greatest performance in Dead history IMO
Uncle John's Band

Harpur College

I agree as well, I've always felt this is best played acustic.
Visions of Johanna

Lot of passion from Jerry and the band was right with him. Precise but restrained. I think Jerry's solo was sweet even if it didn't have direction. He made his point with it. I don't like to compare years and get all cought up in the whole it was good for 1995. This performance stands alone. It was played and it came from a band who even though they were struggling was still a great band more then capable of delivering. This a go to version for me when I want to hear something deep that also makes me think and ponder. Jerry delivered Dylan as good as dylan did. This performance is prime example of that. It's pure Jerry. Great for any of his 30 years!!!!!
