Dancin' in the Streets
Nov. 2, 1969
Family Dog at the Great Highway
A lost masterpiece, now restored on the new Dave's Picks! The once-missing jam is a face-stealer.

Not Fade Away
Dec. 17, 1992
Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum
A searing hot jam with lots of Phil and aggressive work from Weir. Underrated.

Hurts Me Too
Aug. 24, 1971
Auditorium Theatre
An uncommonly spirited organ solo from Pigpen augmented by searing leads from Jerry make this one stand out.

Let It Grow
Oct. 26, 1980
Radio City Music Hall
What this one lacks in deep exploration, it more than makes up for in exceptionally tight playing and strong vocals. A top-shelf performance from all.

Mama Tried
June 16, 1990
Shoreline Amphitheatre
Tight version with a spirited solo from Jerry.

Goin' Down The Road Feelin' Bad
May 14, 1978
Providence Civic Center
Jerry is feeling exceptionally creative at this show, and this GDTRFB is borderline transcendent. One of those Garcia solo breaks that packs so much brilliance and creativity into one short burst that you can hardly believe it.
Not Fade Away
Sept. 28, 1975
Lindley Meadows, Golden Gate Park
Hearing this version makes me sad that the BFA era was so short-lived. The two-drummer insanity and electric keys combined with the '74 Jazz Fusion jamming had a lot to offer. There is no other NFA quite like this one
Wharf Rat
March 18, 1971
Fox Theatre
A rawer alternative to the version on Skull & Roses. The boys are clearly looking for a perfect take, evidenced by the level of focus and intentionality in Garcia's vocals and band interplay on the verses, but the jam and Pigpen b3 give this one a bit of stank not found on the S&R take.

Eyes Of The World
April 22, 1978
Nashville Municipal Auditorium
Some enthusiastic soloing for Jerry capped off by a triumphant closing jam into a top-shelf Rhythm Devils. Maybe the best version of '78?
