Gorgeous soloing from Jerry and a tender vocal performance. The new mix on the Giants box really lets this one shine.

Bobby is dripping trippy chords all over the jam. SUBLIME

Surprised this has no votes. This version is played with a level of energy and precision CJ rarely ever got. Great set 2 opener.

Lyrically precise, energetic playing, and everyone sounds like they're enjoying themselves. What more could you ask for on this one?

The shorter versions need love to, and this one hits all the sweet spots.

The Race Is On

Edmundson Pavilion

The tightest, most spirited electric version I've heard.
Not Fade Away
May 19, 1974
Portland Memorial Coliseum

Don't let the Truckin' distract you from how awesome this NFA is. Unique, funky breakdown toward the transition into GDTRFB that carries over some of the creativity that defined the jams before. Great stuff.
Truckin'
May 19, 1974
Portland Memorial Coliseum

Every single bandmember (minus Donna) is putting on a goddamn clinic on this one. The only bad thing about this Truckin' is that it makes you wish moments like this happened more often. Easily a top 10 Grateful Dead performance of all time.
Sugaree

Portland Memorial Coliseum

Like everything else from this show, Keith really livens things up.

Jerry delivers this one with a little extra theatricality on the vocals, matching the lyrical progression with inspired leads. Keith also gets a little adventurous here if you listen closely. Wonderful version.
