It's a bit uneven vocally, musically it's slow and sultry.

A ripping opener, Pigpen is all in, wonderful show, good quality tape but some unfortunate cuts.

You know the drill by now; DS > SS > 11 > LL; gotta catch 'em all

Morning Dew

The Ark

So, not only is this a wonderful Dew, the Jerry banter after this and before beginning a transcendent Cryptical Suite is a hoot as well.

Beggars belief this hasn't be submitted already.

Around and Around

Seriously, find me a better Around and Around than this. Filthy 1st set closer.
Viola Lee Blues

Harpur College

I've been making a tour of shows from 67 - 71 and concentrating on The Other Ones and Viola Lee Blues and this to me is far and away the best. And obviously just a fantastic show all around.
The Other One

Has to be experienced to be believed; with the DS preceding and the LL following; Simply does not get better than this. End of.

Barton Hall - Cornell University

After all the hype about Cornell 77, deserved or otherwise, this Loser and the Morning Dew simply have to be admired as truly great.

Seems like 5-8-77 gets maligned by those who have really explored the range of recordings out there from the 60's to the 90's and back. For me, this recording literally was my introduction to The Dead while at college circa 1986. We had Europe '72 and we had a tape labeled "Cornell". And yeah, I soon expanded my horizons but you never forget your first, you know? Even if you decry people heralding versions from this show as being 'the best' you have to admit the entire show from start to finish is completely bananas crazy good. So, yeah. Duh.
