rollicking! usually I easily get bored with Big River but you can really sink your teeth into this one
Let It Grow
July 18, 1976
Orpheum Theater

This is a really special Let It Grow, and it's crazy it's not rated higher. Sandwiched around a Drums segment and opening with a shuffling groove, it's a fantastic example of how the '76 return to the two drummer setup could do some really interesting things when they took it slow. There's an emotional, melodic jam dominated by Jerry and Phil that gives way to the Drums segment, and another interesting jam after the verse kicks in post-Drums.
He's Gone
Feb. 26, 1981
Uptown Theater

It's criminal this doesn't have more votes! The early Brent years occasional big jams out of He's Gone are always really neat, with this one in particular covering a lot of ground. Bob, Jerry, and Brent all get into some intense scatting right before the jam, and then the jam itself often reminds me of the introspective explorations from '74. It gets very mournful about 2/3rds in until slowly building back up into a gliding, triumphant groove before giving way to Drums.
Playin' In The Band
Nov. 9, 1973
Winterland Arena

This one moves pretty briskly from the get-go but it takes a while to notice it's gathering even more steam. By the end, it's absolutely relentless. As others have said, Jerry wails like one of those heavy 1972 PITBS, but everyone else is just as all over this track. Some of the chords Keith lays down in the climax are just as heavy as Jerry's guitar playing. Fantastic.
The Wheel

Auditorium Theatre

In like a lamb and out like a lion! Very unexpected jam at the end that as others pointed out is vaguely reminiscent of The Other One. Some of that signature spirit of '76 when the band finds unexpected places to tack in a jam.
